Bodied
Visual Landscapes of a Paranoid Mind:
Using found imagery, Bodied creates psychological landscapes that reflect my experience with PTSD and the blurred lines between spiraling paranoia and actual physical threats.
I created these landscapes with images from accessible, mainstream pornography to critique a medium that often neglects to include the voices of those being represented. This imagery, when exclusively directed and shot by men, provides a distorted and narrow lens of the sexual experience. The lack of diversity in leadership and production directly effects how people are perceived and therefore effects how people are valued and engaged with.
I use erotic imagery because it is one facet of consumerism that has directly effected my safety. The reality is that as a whole, we are all impacted by who is at the top of the food chain, who has control and how that control is used. When leadership roles are not diversified, those areas inherently become unsafe for those not represented.
My experience with paranoia is a result of the way my body has been interacted with. The way my body has been interacted with is a result of objectification, stimulated by media, magazines, and erotic imagery that have used my body but neglected my voice.
